Cobourg Police investigate an alleged Sunday assault

Cobourg Police are investigating an assault early Sunday morning.

The victim reported having been assaulted in the area of McGill Street and King Street East.

Police claim a verbal altercation escalated into the victim being struck with an unknown object.

Authorities attended the scene, speaking with those present in the area at that time, seizing evidence, including a long object believed to have been used in the assault. A suspect has not been identified.

The victim was treated for injuries in hospital and later released.  Police are appealing for witnesses and information.
