Cleveland: “Enough is enough,” after woman apparent steps on discarded needle at Cobourg Beach

Cobourg mayor Lucas Cleveland is saying enough is enough, after a woman apparently stepped on a discarded needle Thursday at Victoria Park Beach.
Today’s Northumberland reports that the woman named “Marie,” was with her family of 10, including seven children.
Shortly after watching the beach get combed by Town staff, Marie walked over to one of the children playing in the sand and felt a sharp pain.
She said she pulled the one to two inch needle from her foot.
Marie immediately sought medical attention at the local emergency department, receiving treatment for possible tetanus and bloodborne infections.
After leaving the hospital, the woman was stuck with a $1300 medical bill.
Cleveland said he is disturbed and saddened by the incident, hoping that Marie gets the care she needs.
He adds people should not be concerned for their health for taking a stroll on the beach.
Cleveland remarked that he is encouraged to see new police chief Chris Leather making arrests a priority.
