Port Hope launches meet-the-candidates site

The Municipality of Port Hope has launched a meet-the-candidates web page at porthopevotes.ca to help voters find out more before they vote next month.
Municipal Clerk and Returning Officer Shrishma Davis noted in the announcement that this initiative was also launched during the 2022 municipal election and in the 2024 Ward 2 by-election. Feedback from these elections made it clear that this was a valued resource to the community.
“This page provides electors with a convenient, centralized source of information to help them learn more about the candidates, their platforms and how to get in touch with them,” Davis said.
“Ultimately, our goal is to support an informed electorate and foster participation in the democratic process. We encourage everyone to review the candidate profiles, and connect with them directly if they have questions.”
To compile the page, each candidate running for mayor and councillor was given the opportunity to submit a photo, contact information, social-media and website links, and a short platform message. As for school board trustee candidates, contact information is also on the page.
In the Municipality of Port Hope, voting can be done on-line or by phone, starting at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16, until 8 p.m. Oct. 26.
