Lakelands announces new Associate Medical Officer of Health

Lakelands Public Health is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Maxwell Tran as the health unit's new Associate Medical Officer of Health.
Following what Lakelands described as “a distinguished academic and professional journey,” Dr. Tran completed his Doctor of Medicine and a combined Family Medicine/Public Health and Preventive Medicine (PHPM) residency at the University of Toronto, demonstrating leadership qualities by serving as Chief Resident for both programs. During his residency, he also earned a Master of Public Health from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was recognized as a prestigious Sommer Scholar.
His background includes extensive hand-on training across the province's public health landscape. As a senior PHPM resident, Dr. Tran completed rotations at multiple local public health units, as well as provincially with Public Health Ontario and the Office of the Chief Medical Officer of Health,
In addition to his public health specialization, Dr. Tran maintains an active clinical practice in both family medicine and hospitalist medicine. This clinical work has taken him across the province to serve diverse patient populations in North York, Parry Sound, Sioux Lookout and Sandy Lake First Nation.
In the announcement, Lakelands Medical Officer of Health Dr. Thomas Piggott noted that Dr. Tran's “outstanding academic background, paired with his extensive hands-on residence experience and deep clinical understanding of both urban and remote communities makes him an exceptional asset to our team. I look forward to working closely alongside him to protect and promote the health of everyone in our region.”
