OHT-N support seniors and caregivers with new series at St. Peter's

The Ontario Health Team of Northumberland is collaborating with St. Peter's Anglican Church on a free new monthly program designed to support caregivers, older adults and community members across Northumberland County,

Beginning Sept. 17, the Caregiver Speaker and Social Hour Series will provide practical education, information about local services and supports, and the opportunity to connect with others who may be navigating similar experiences.

Sessions will convene at 1:30 p.m. at St. Peter's – 240 College St., Cobourg – featuring a presentation from a local subject-matter expert or community partner, followed by a 2:30 p.m. social hour, where participants are invited to stay and connect and build relationships in an informal and supportive environment.

Topics will cover a range of issues:

Sept. 17 – Am I a Caregiver? Understanding the Caregiver Journey

Oct. 15 – Caring for Yourself While Caring for Others: Caregiver Wellness and Mental Health

Nov. 19 – Navigating Senior Care: Retirement Living, Long-Term Care, Home Supports and Advance Care Planning

Dec. 10 – Staying Strong, Independent and Well As We Age

Jan. 14 – Be Prepared: Emergency Planning for Older Adults and Caregivers (featuring a panel that includes local paramedics, police and fire representations

Feb 11 – Understanding Changes in Behaviour: Practical Strategies for Caregivers

March 18 – Planning Ahead: Financial, Legal and Estate Considerations for Aging Adults and Caregivers
