Following a belated starting date due to air-quality issues, Cobourg's Movies Under The Stars series is set to kick off July 31.
This free event gives families and friends the chance to enjoy a relaxing summer-night movie – just bring your blanket or lawn chair and enjoy, as the films are projected onto a giant inflatable outdoor movie screen that uses a powerful video projector and concert-quality sound system.
Experience Cobourg thanks this year's movie sponsor The Mortgage Centre, as well as treat sponsor Mistral Group – complimentary treats will be available while supplies last, and additional snacks and food will also be available for purchase at select events.
Movies begin at dusk (approximately 8:30 p.m.), and the line-up is ready to go.
July 31 – Field of Dreams will be shown in Victoria Park
Aug. 2 – Minecraft Movie will be shown on the beach
Aug. 8 – Lilo & Stitch (rescheduled from July 4 due to weather conditions) will be shown in Victoria Park
Aug. 22 – Superman will be shown on the beach
Sept. 5 – Hoppers will be shown in Victoria Park
The series concludes with a very special screening on Sept. 12 at dusk (about 7:45 p.m.), with a tribute to Cobourg's own Marie Dressler – a screening of the film that won her the 1931 Best Actress Oscar, Min and Bill.
Born at 212 King St. W., Dressler became one of Hollywood's most beloved stars, with a remarkable career that spanned stage, silent films and talkies.
The house would become one of the town's most prominent restaurants until a 1989 fire. When it was rebuilt, it housed the chamber of commerce and driver's license office, and a special room was dedicated as a museum in Dressler's honour.
Over the years, the public services have relocated, but the house is now a Women In Film Museum honouring Dressler and her two fellow Canadian-born Best Actress Oscar winners, Norma Shearer and Mary Pickford.
Please remember that all parking regulations apply, and will be enforced 24/7. For more information, visit Cobourg.ca/parking.
Also keep in mind that weather cancellations due to lightning or other unsafe conditions may occur – notices of cancellations will be posted on the Experience Cobourg Facebook page.
