A 28-year-old Brighton woman is facing theft charges in connection with two separate shoplifting investigations.

Northumberland OPP say officers began investigating after liquor was reported stolen from a business on Park Street in Brighton on June 18. A second theft was reported on June 29 after merchandise was allegedly stolen from a Main Street business.

Police say both investigations led officers to identify the same suspect.

On Tuesday, officers conducting a traffic stop in the area of Elizabeth Street and Oliphant Street recognized a passenger who was wanted in connection with the theft investigations. She was taken into custody.

Leena Canfyn-Crawford of Brighton has been charged with multiple counts of theft and failing to comply with an undertaking.

She is scheduled to appear in a Cobourg court in August.

Upon continuing the investigation, police say officers determined that the driver was suspended and committing various other offences.

The driver, a 33-year-old Brighton woman, was arrested on multiple charges as well.
