The Town of Cobourg's Community Services Division announces the filming of Murdoch Mysteries scenes (mostly downtown) on Wednesday and Thursday, June 24 and 25.

Filming activity is expected to have localized and temporary impacts. Though efforts will be in place to maintain public access where possible, residents can expect short, intermittent traffic delays and localized activity around filming areas.

On Wednesday, filming will involve Victoria Hall (55 King St. W.) for both interior and exterior shots. One exterior scene will involve a prop firearm, which will be drawn and “fired” with no sound effects.

Thursday will see filming in four locations – the Cobourg Conservation Area (morning only), 202 Church St., Victoria Park and a private laneway at 29 King St. E. (where some increased noise and lighting activity may occur during evening filming hours).

Please note that these are schedules, subject to change based on production requirements and weather conditions.

The Town of Cobourg council meeting, scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday, will proceed as scheduled. Staff will be onsite throughout the day and evening to ensure residents and visitors continue to have full access to both the meeting and municipal services. And the Art Gallery of Northumberland (third floor west) will remain open and accessible, with co-ordinated access maintained for visitors.

The Victoria Hall filming will occur in short, intermittent segments, which will be actively managed. Pedestrians, council attendees and visitors will be moved safely and efficiently into and out of the building with minimal delay.

While there will be no full road closures, intermittent traffic stoppages will be co-ordinated by the Cobourg Police Service – short in duration and actively managed to maintain movement and safety. Pedestrian access to businesses and municipal facilities will be maintained at al times, with on-site direction provided as required.

On Wednesday, look for intermittent stoppages on George Street at King Street West from 8 a.m. to10 p.m., and on King Street West (between Third and Second Street) and on Third Street between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

On Thursday, expect intermittent stoppages on Church Street (between King Street East and Queen) and on King Street East (east of College Street to west of Green Street) between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m.

The production company will access on-street parking spaces (and pay applicable fees) both days in four locations – Second and Third Streets (between King and Albert), portions of King Street West (near Victoria Hall), Church and McGill Streets (Thursday only), and King Street East (Thursday only).

Downtown businesses will remain open and accessible throughout. Residents and visitors are encouraged to support local businesses, and may also have the opportunity to observe filming activity in designated public areas.
