Civic leaders in Alnwick/Haldimand Township are responding to what they claim is misinformation regarding the 2026 tax levy.

Confusion arose last Tuesday as to what the correct percentage increase would be at Council, as Council in February voted for a 5.09 percent increase.

That number was confirmed on Friday at a special Council meeting, in which all Councillors agreed.

“I encourage residents to rely on official municipal communications when seeking information about municipal taxes and finances. If you have questions about your specific tax notice, please contact the Municipality directly. Our staff are always happy to review your account, explain how your taxes were calculated, and answer any questions you may have,” said Mayor John Logel.

The Township says there are unverified social media claims. The tax bills are expected to be issued this week.
