Coldest Night of the Year was heart-warming

Green Wood Coalition announces that the Port Hope community raised more than $65,000 for their work at this year's Coldest Night of the Year fundraiser.
It was Feb. 28 when supporters came together to show what can happen when a community unites with purpose and compassion.
A new route this year brought fresh energy to the event, the announcement said, as did the two rest stops – The Pulse for a second year and Port Hope High School for the first time.
It all kicked off at the Ganaraska Brewing Company hosting a live auction and a party with the musical talents of Cale Crowe and Harry Hannah.
And as a special treat at the finish line, walkers found that St. Mary Catholic Secondary School's culinary program had prepared a warm and nourishing chili feed – with ingredients courtesy of Northumberland Food Share – with cookies from Happenstance Bakery.
Organizers thank Lead Sponsor Nuclear Laboratory Partners of Canada, the contract operator for Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, as well as CIBC Port Hope Banking Centre and Port Hope Volkswagen, Hyundai and Chrysler.
Event Community Engagement Co-ordinator Kim Jaye said that the event matters “because it funds GWC's inclusive programming, where everyone has a place to be seen.
“This year it wasn't just a walk – it was a powerful reminder that when we show up for each other, hope feels real.”
Next year's walk is scheduled for Feb. 27, 2027.
