Lakelands Public Health is inviting residents across the region to share their ideas, concerns and priorities for the future of community health in a series of Community Town Halls.
The health unit describes these sessions as an open forum where community members can discuss the health issues that matter most to them, and help inform future public-health priorities.
The one held in Northumberland County will take place at 7 p.m. April 15 at 115 Toronto Rd., Port Hope. As well, details will be announced for an Alderville First Nation session.
“Public health affects nearly every aspect of our daily lives,” Medical Officer of Health and Lakelands Chief Executive Officer Dr. Thomas Piggott said in the announcement.
“We want to hear directly from residents about what challenges they're seeing in their communities and what supports would make the biggest difference.”
Each Community Town Hall will include a brief overview of public-health services, followed by interactive discussions with staff and opportunities for participants to provide feedback. Attendees will also be invited to complete a short survey to expand on their perspectives and ccontribute ideas on strengthening local health programs and services.
All input received will help guide planning and future initiatives.
Sessions are open to residents, community organizations, health-care providers and anyone interested in improving community health and well-being.
“These conversations are an important part of ensuring public-health services reflect the evolving needs of the people we serve,” Dr. Piggott added.
“Community voices are essential in shaping what comes next, as we build Lakelands Public Health for generations to come.”
Interested parties can register on-line through the Lakelands Public Health Eventbrite page. Those who cannot attend in person will also have opportunities to provide feedback on-line through a virtual session.
