Cobourg expands transit hours

Launched in September 2024 as a pilot project, Cobourg Transit's Limited Fixed Route service will have expanded weekday service hours, effective March 9.
Brought in as a complement to the town's On-Demand transit system, the Limited Fixed Route service features 35 stops across town hourly, operating weekdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. with no booking necessary. Signage at bus stops indicate at what point in the hour the bus can be expected.
As of March 9, hours will expand to a 7 a.m.-to-7 p.m. day, providing greater flexibility and improved access.
Since its inception, the Limited Fixed Route service has become a valued transportation option – in 2025 alone, the service recorded 10,289 passenger trips (with a peak month of November seeing 1,147 rides).
“This expansion reflects our commitment to building a transit system that meets the evolving needs of our community,” Director of Public Works and Engineering Laurie Wills said in the announcement.
“The strong ridership numbers demonstrate that residents are embracing the Fixed Route service, and these extended hours will make transit an even more convenient and reliable option for our residents and visitors.”
Also on March 9, the On-Demand service will expand during the final two hours weekdays, with two buses operating instead of one. New hours are 6:15 a.m. to 9 p.m. weekdays (with the last booking available at 8:45 p.m.), 8:15 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. Saturdays (last booking at 6:30 p.m.), and 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Sundays (last booking at 3:30 p.m.).
This service features 184 stops throughout town, with bookings available through the Cobourg Transit app or at https://book.cobourgtransit.rideco.com
or 905-373-0582. In 2025, this service had an 89% utilization rate, with 84% of the rides booked on the app or through the website.
For riders unable to utilize conventional transit due to cognitive, physical, sensory, visual or environmental limitations, application may be made for the WHEELS transit service. For more information, visit www.Cobourg.ca/wheels
