Capitol Theatre Artistic Director Rob Kempson announces the launch of tickets for this year's highly anticipated Summer Season Rollout events.
As well, there is the Port Hope theatre's major fundraising gala themed On The Rock, a Newfoundland-style celebration in honour of this year's mainstage production of Come From Away.
“Our rollout events bring the spirit of the summer-season productions out of the theatre and into our community,” Kempson said in the announcement.
“Inspired by this season's upcoming productions, we have five amazing events on offer this year, with all proceeds going directly to the work you'll see on stage.
“The incredible support each year at our annual rollout events enables us to develop and program high-quality plays and concerts, including musicals like Come From Away – the inspiration for this year's gala.”
The rollout events run from April 20 to 25, and tickets are now available.
April 20 – Beagles and Baseball – 4 to 7 p.m. - pay-what-you-can admission for dog lovers and spectators, $150 to register a team:
This mini-slow-pitch tournament celebrates the production of You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. And just like the Peanuts gang, it's more about fun than skill. Register as a team with your workmates or friends for a chance at the Top Dog title. Or if you're a spectator, bring your pooch along for some dog activities, a classic barbecue, and a lot of fun. It takes place at Wladyka Park (300 Croft St.) with the Municipality of Port Hope and Happenstance Bakery as event supporters.
April 21 – Cocktail Condolences – 4 to 7 p.m. - $50 per person:
Imagine a funeral cocktail reception without the grieving, and you have this rollout event for Liars At A Funeral. The reception comes complete with church sandwiches, flower arrangements and complimentary estate-planning tips – and possibly a few secrets to reveal over cocktails. It takes place at Rushnell Funeral Home (103 Mill St. N.) with Rushnell and Mendum Wealth Management as event supporters.
April 22 – Kitchen Party Crawl – 7 to 10 p.m. - $45 per person:
Inspired by the George Street pubs in St. John's, Newfoundland, this event offers a musical pub crawl through Port Hope's streets in celebration of Come From Away – each stop a chance to share stories, a pint and a hearty laugh. Along the way, the streets will be filled with live music from Newfoundland itself. Light refreshments are included. Meet at the Capitol Theatre and follow along for stops at the Beamish House, Thirsty Goose and Ganaraska Brewery – all of whom are event supporters.
April 23 – A Thrill On Screen – 7 to 10 p.m. - $25 per person:
Looking forward to the summer production of the new Canadian adaptation of Gaslight, this intimate screening will look at the classic 1944 film that made this story so popular. The compelling film will be shown in the Rod Stewart and Masumi Suzuki Atmospheric Theatre at the Capitol, and guests will take home a special souvenir – an old-fashioned portrait from the photographer in the lobby.
April 25 – On The Rock Red Carpet Gala – 6 to 10 p.m. - $150 per person:
This event will see the entire building decked out in the sights and sounds of Canada's easternmost province, with guests gathered to enjoy live music, toast the season ahead and directly support Canadian artists, Guests will enjoy a live auction and performances by The Fiddleheads, Seventh Town and Melissa Payne.
The season is under way, and single tickets for all programming will be available by March 31.
