A partnership between the Town of Cobourg and YMCA Northumberland will expand recreational opportunities for local families at this year's March Break camps.
Essentially, children registered for this program at either site will have the opportunity to visit and participate in activities at the other. Campers at the Cobourg Community Centre can enjoy time at the Y (including aquatic activities), while camper at the Y can visit the CCC for skating activities.
“By sharing facilities, we are giving kids more ways to stay active, creating richer camp programs and demonstrating that we are truly greater working together,” Y President and Chief Executive Officer Eunice Kirkpatrick said in the announcement.
This initiative reflects on ongoing collaboration between the two parties. In 2024, both entered a Memorandum of Understanding, exploring a potential partnership to develop a recreation centre in Cobourg that would serve the needs of residents in Cobourg and Northumberland County – one that provides expanded facilities that align with a YMCA operation, including an aquatic centre, conditioning and fitness areas, multi-purpose space and change rooms, located on the northern portion of the CCC property.
At the CCC, the March Break camp offers a full week of themed activities for children aged four to 10. Registration opens Feb. 9 for the session that runs from March 16 to 20 (9 a.m. to 4 p.m.), and extended care is available from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. For more information or to register, visit www.cobourg.ca/camp or call 905-372-7371.
At the Y, registration is now open for camp dates for children aged five to 12 – March 13 and March 16 to 20, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with extended care available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. To register, visit https://ymcacanrt.org/camp/
