Family Day announcements for Cobourg

A number of municipal closures, as well as a number of local activities, are being announced by the Town of Cobourg for Family Day on Monday, Feb. 16.

Closures include Victoria Hall (55 King St. W.) – all municipal offices are closed, and Victoria Hall itself is only open from noon to 4 p.m. As for the Concert Hall box office, it is closed for in-person ticket purchases (though tickets are still available through ExperienceCobourg.ca).

Other closures include the Venture 13 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre (739 D'Arcy St.), Cobourg Public Library (200 Ontario St.) and Building 7 Public Works (though on-call staff can be reached for emergencies at 905-372-9971).

The Cobourg Community Centre will be operating during regular hours (though there will not be senior programming that day), and Cobourg Transit will run on its regular schedule.

And the list of events begins with Galentine's Day, which will see downtown shops open until 8 p.m. (visit https://www.downtowncobourg.ca/events for more information).

Crock A Doodle Cobourg (169 Division St.) kicks off the weekend Friday, Feb. 13, at 5 p.m. with a Palentine's Painting Party. The event is open for drop-ins, but reservations are recommended (https://crockadoodle.com/cobourg/reservation-request/)

On Saturday, Lock in the Love takes place at Rotary Harbourfront Park – inspired by a tradition seen around the world, couples can stroll along the creek to the Love Locks bridge display.

All weekend, from Feb. 14 to 16, Cobourg becomes one of the Ontario Family Fishing sites where license-free family fishing is offered – visit www.ontariofamilyfishing.com for locations and more details.

Saturday is Family Day Fun Day from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Lions Community Centre (157 Elgin St. E.), with activities for all ages – a bouncy castle, face painting, games, prizes, food and refreshments. Admission is free, though everyone is encouraged to bring a donation in support of the local food bank.

On Saturday, the Teddy Make Mobile visits Rainbow Cinemas at Northumberland Mall for a special deal – two movie tickets, two medium drinks, one medium popcorn and a stuffed animal of your choice for $60 (cash only).

A Les AMIS Concert begins at 3 p.m. Sunday at Trinity United Church (284 Division St.), featuring violinist Lynn Kuo (assistant concertmaster of the National Ballet of Canada) and acclaimed pianist Alexander Panizza for a diverse program of classical works. Monday is Cobourg YMCA Family Fun Day (339 Elgin St. W.) with complimentary access to the gym from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and an open swim from 11 a.m. to 5 p,m.

FBC Church (469 Elgin St. W.) hosts a Family Day Festival Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring Olympic-themed indoor and outdoor activities for all ages – tobogganing with a Cobourg Police officer, horse-drawn carriage rides, a Winter Olympics watch party, an inflatable obstacle course, a campfire with s'mores, face painting, indoor activities, crafts, games, complimentary lunch and snacks and more. At Rotary Waterfront Park (110 Second St.), Family Day fun runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, with live demonstrations from a chainsaw wood carver, performances by the Port Hope Figure Skating Club, Zumba sessions and musical entertainment by VOS Productions, and the chance to meet Sparky and members of the Cobourg Fire Department, enjoy live DJ music and meet local vendors. Family-friendly activities include skating and a nature scavenger hunt. Food will be available by a donation to the local food bank, courtesy of the Lions Club of Cobourg. Families are invited to kick off the day with a free 10 a.m. screening of the film Despicable Me 4 at the Rainbow Cinemas at Northumberland Mall.

Family Day at the Art Gallery of Northumberland (third floor west at Victoria Hall) features activities from 1 to 3 p.m., including family portrait drawing, a collaborative yarn-art project, a Lunar New Year themed art activity, and a winter activity guide to explore the gallery.
