The generous support of the community on Oct. 3 resulted in a record-breaking $72,000-plus raised for Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre at their 19th annual Walk A Mile fundraiser.
These proceeds will help Cornerstone continue to provide vital programs and services to Northumberland individuals and families impacted by gender-based violence.
The event began years ago as a challenge to men to “walk a mile in her shoes” wearing red high heels. It has evolved to include everyone in a light-hearted family-friendly event for everyone.
“We are so grateful to everyone who came together to make this year's Walk A Mile such a success,” Cornerstone Executive Director Nancy Johnston said in the announcement.
“The incredible support we receive from our community allows us to continue being there for those when they need us most. Every dollar raised helps strengthen the programs and services we provide, including shelter, counselling, prevention programming and other essential supports.”
Cormerstone relies on the on-going generosity of donors, sponsors, volunteers and community supporters, and Johnston extended heart-felt thanks to all – including lead sponsor Cameco as well as Canadian Tire, Ontario Line Clearing and Wharram Tree Service, Balder and Dez Capital.
Then there were the community partners, she added.
“We are incredibly thankful to the Lions Club of Cobourg and Pulse Coffee House for helping us welcome participants with breakfast and coffee,” Johnston continued.
“Thank you to the Cobourg Fire Department, Cobourg and Port Hope Police Services, Ontario Provincial Police, the Cobourg Police Service Pipes & Drums, and to everyone who came out and showed their support.”
