As part of the Municipality of Port Hope's rotating system for assigning the role of Deputy Mayor annually, Councillor Adam Pearson is assuming the role from predecessor Vicki Mink.

“I am deeply grateful for the confidence placed in me, and I look forward to continuing to serve our wonderful community with dedication and a strong commitment to collaboration,” the new Deputy Mayor said in the announcement.

“I want to extend my sincere appreciation to outgoing Deputy Mayor Vicki Mink for her exceptional leadership and steadfast service. Vicki has been a strong voice for residents and a tireless advocate for responsible community-focused decision making. Her guidance and contributions have strengthened our municipality, and I am thankful for the foundation she has helped build.

“As we move into 2026, I remain focused on working with Mayor Hankivsky, council, staff and, most importantly, the people of Port Hope to support progress, foster community spirit, and ensure that our incredible community continues to thrive,” Pearson pledged.

“Thank you, Port Hope, for the opportunity to serve the greatest community.”

In 2023, council approved a rotational system for this position, offering eligible council members the opportunity to serve in this leadership role. The rotation for the current term includes Councillors Todd Attridge and Claire Holloway Wadhwani, as well as Mink and Pearson.

In his first council term, Pearson has owned Queenies Bake Shop in the downtown for 14 years, creating a welcoming space that reflects his commitment to local connection and collaboration. His passion for community involvement has led him to host numerous events and initiatives (such as his annual Christmas toy drive), earning recognition and a number of awards – a list that includes two Philanthropy Awards, the Paul Harris Award, the YMCA Peace Medal and the Chief of Police Outstanding Citizen Award.

“As we begin a new year, council remains committed to working together to advance priorities that strengthen our community,” Mayor Olena Hankivsky said.

“We look forward to Deputy Mayor Pearson's leadership in this role, and thank Councillor Vicki Mink for her dedication as Deputy Mayor in 2025.”
