Wesleyville nuclear project progresses to assessment stage

Public comment is now open on the Initial Project Description for the proposed New Nuclear project at the Wesleyville site in Port Hope.

The proposed project by Ontario Power Generation  would provide up to 10,000 megawatts of new nuclear generating capacity and operate for 78 years.

Comments should be based on local, regional, or Indigenous Knowledge of the site or surrounding environment, or provide any other relevant information that may support the conduct of this assessment.

The submission deadline is Feb. 11. OPG has submitted its project description to the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada.

This is the first step in the regulatory process in the federal regulatory process, which will examine the environmental and social impacts of the project and seek ways to mitigate adverse effects. This will also be an opportunity for local First Nations and municipalities to provide feedback.

This is the initial stage of a multi-year, multi-phased Impact Assessment process.
