A variety of events are planned for all to enjoy during Hispanic Heritage Month

The Northumberland Hispanic Cultural Club invites members of the community to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a multi-week, multi-venue festival of art, music, dance and dialogue under the theme Hispanic Colours: Our Bright Heritage.
The Colborne Art Gallery (51 King St. E.) spotlights Hispanic Colours: Our Bright Heritage in their Heritage Room every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from Oct. 4 through Dec. 14.
And in Cobourg, there is a wide variety of events to enjoy, starting with a film festival in the Victoria Hall Citizen's Forum (55 King St. W.), with a weekend of films – Sin La Habana and Chinas on Sept. 30, The Good Boss and Ixcanul, Volcano on Oct. 1, and Cows Wearing Glasses and Helena from Sarayaku on Oct. 2.
An Oct. 11 Latin Dinner Gala comes to the Best Western Cobourg Inn and Convention Centre (930 Burnham St.) at 7 p.m. Oct. 11, with live music by Mariachi Mexico Amigo with Carla Gonzalez and Latintrain – plus salsa and merengue dance classes with Gabia Anthony of the Dance With Me Academy. Tickets are available in advance only.
An unforgettable evening of Latin flavours and vibrant performances follows Oct. 18 at the Craft Food House (201 Division St.), with the soulful voice of tenor Fabian Arciniegas, the passion of Lesley Dali's Spanish dances, and the lively rhythms of Marta Reyes's Latin American dances. Reservations are required.
On Oct. 25 at 11 a.m., a conference is scheduled in the Northumberland Rom at the Best Western on the topic en la punta de/dos lenguas: A Genealogy of Contemporary Latin-Canadian Women's Poetry with Tania Aguila-Way of the University of Toronto.
And a final concert takes place at 3 p.m. Oct. 26 at Trinity United Church (284 Division St.), featuring the Northumberland Orchestra Society, Karla Garcia, Margie Bernal, Danae & Daniela Olano, Mariachi Mexico Amigo and special participation by Black n' Blue under conductor Colleen Allen. Children up to 12 years of age are admitted free.
This series of events is designed to showcase visual and performing arts that reflect the cultural tapestry of Hispanic and Latino identities as well encourage cross-cultural dialogues through a variety of media and create community gathering spaces for all to learn, enjoy and participate.
