Health officials are warning that air quality may become an issue in Northumberland County. The Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit states the Air Quality Health Index for the area is expected to increase to moderate throughout this evening and into tomorrow.

Wildfire smoke from the prairies is moving into the region, causing poor air quality. Most people can continue outdoor activities, but those with heart or breathing problems should monitor for symptoms.

Certain population sectors may experience greater health risks when exposed to poor air quality. The Health Unit says it will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates when available.
