The Ed's House Northumberland Hospice Care Foundation is excited to announce that a compassionate group of 17 local physicians has joined forces in support of Ed's House and local hospice services.

These doctors have committed to be dollar-for-dollar matching donors for the Give A Gift From The Heart campaign at the sixth annual Handbags For Hospice event slated for April 10 at the Best Western Plus Cobourg Inn and Convention Centre,

Led by Ed's House Medical Director Dr. Kate Everdell, this incredible partnership provides a meaningful opportunity to double the impact of every Give A Gift From The Heart donation up to a maximum of $15,000, ensuring that these donations go even further in providing high-quality compassionate care to individuals and families in need of hospice services.

Labelling the group Physicians With Heart, the announcement listed the group members. In addition to Dr. Everdell, they include Dr Tapas Banerjee, Dr, Stephen Cornish, Dr. Marcus Cunningham, Dr. Fraser Cameron, Dr. Doug Dersnah, Dr. Mark Essak, Dr. Erin Pepper, Dr. Gordon Plue, Dr. Mark Azzopardi, Dr. Michelle Long, Dr. Francesco Mule, Dr. Rachel Schoon, Dr. Karen Northey, Dr. Carla Sabatini, Dr. Emma Smith and Dr. Helena Whyte.

Community Care Northumberland Chief Executive Officer Trish Baird extended their thanks to the group for their dedication to improving end-of-life care in Northumberland.

“Their involvement as matching donors through Give A Gift From The Heart demonstrates their unwavering commitment to our community, and to ensuring Ed's House continues to provide essential services to individuals and families during life's most difficult moments,” Baird said.

The April 10 event promises to be a memorable evening, with silent and live auctions, golden-ticket draws and other exciting fundraising opportunities, all in direct support of the services and operations that provide compassionate hospice care at Ed's House.

The announcement also extended thanks to the lead sponsors of the event – Signature Sponsor Tony Pulla and Pearl Sponsor Jacqueline Pennington of Re/Max Hallmark.

The purpose of the foundation is to raise funds to support Community Care Northumberland's hospice-service programs, including the Palliative Care Community Team, Volunteer Hospice Visiting progra, and Grief and Bereavement support – which operate alongside the 24/7 end-of-life care provided at Ed's House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre.

In recent months, Ed's House has expanded from a six-bed to a 10-bed facility, extending compassionate care to more individuals and families undergoing one of the most challenging times in their lives. And through the generosity of community, this suite of services is offered at no charge.
