Cramahe residents still without power now have a place to warm up, shower, charge electronics and gather water

In response to the recent ice storm and its continuing power outages, Cramahe Township is opening a warming centre at the Keeler Centre Arena at 80 Division St., Colborne.

This offer means residents can drop in weekdays between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. to warm up, charge their electronics, access hot showers and gather water.

There is no food service, and all children must be supervised at all times, the announcement added. As well, the offer depends on stable power, so availability may change.

Mayor Mandy Martin said the offer will continue as long as the power outages persist – for example, some areas (such as Salem) have been told power will not be restored until Wednesday.

“We encourage residents in need to take advantage of this service while it's available,” Martin said, adding that the Colborne Library (6 King St. W.) is also open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, offering washrooms and a warm space.
