Be aware of municipal closures in Cobourg, as well as plenty of community activities

The Town of Cobourg reminds you of upcoming Family Day closures, and also of a wide range of community events that will be taking place to celebrate the holiday.

The Town of Cobourg announce both municipal closures and a number of community events for the Family Day weekend.

The closures will take place on Family Day – Monday, Feb. 17 – of the Venture 13 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre (739 D'Arcy St.), Cobourg Public Library (200 Ontario St.) and Building 7 Public Works (though on-call staff can be reached in case of emergency at 905-372-9971).

At Victoria Hall (55 King St. W.), the building is open from noon to 4 p.m., though all municipal offices will be closed, as well the Concert Hall box office, Tickets can still be purchased on-line at ExperienceCobourg.ca

Cobourg Transit will be running on its regular schedule Feb. 17, and a number of events will take place throughout the weekend leading up to that day.

Friday

Free Family Fishing weekend runs Friday through Monday, with a chance to try ice fishing without a license. For details and locations, visit www.ontariofamilyfishing.com

Scaramouche – A Tribute To Queen plays at 7:30 p.m. in the Victoria Hall Concert Hall. Tickets are $54, all in.

Saturday

A Family Day Fun Fair runs from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cobourg Lions Community Centre (157 Elgin St. E.), a fun and free event that features a bouncy castle, games and prizes, balloon art, face painting and more. And you might want to stay for a hot-dog lunch. A bin will be set up for non-perishable food donations.

Galentine's Event is at the Lions Centre a few hours later, from 6 to 11 p.m., a fun night out with dancing, shopping, pampering and more. Tickets are available at the door.

Sunday

Another great Northumberland Film Sundays feature, The Marching Band, plays at 3:30 p.m. at Northumberland Mall's Rainbow Cinema. See www.northumberlandfilm.com for more information.

Monday

FBC Cobourg (468 Elgin St. W.) brings back its Family Day Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fun and free activities include tobogganing with a cop, horse-drawn carriage rides, RC Car races, campfires and s'mores, games, face painting, fort building, crafts, activities, board games, prizes, music, and free lunch and snacks.

The Art Gallery of Northumberland (third floor west at Victoria Hall) has an afternoon of art activities, scavenger hunting and story telling from 1 to 3 p.m., also offering a chance to check out current exhibitions and explore the community art installation.

YMCA Northumberland (339 Elgin St. W.) is offering a special schedule for the pool, with complimentary access including an open swim time from 1 to 5 p.m.

Family Day in Cobourg runs from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Harbourfront Outdoor Skating Rink (35 Albert St.) with horse-drawn wagon rides, free skating to the music of a live DJ and, as the sun goes down, magical winter lights, all leading up to the 7 p.m. fireworks show.

Cheer on the Cobourg Cougars at the Cobourg Community Centre (750 D'Arcy St.) as they face the Toronto Jr. Canadiens at 7 p.m. Kids aged 12 and under get in free when wearing a jersey and accompanied by an adult – tickets are available on-line at www.cougars.com and at the gate.
