Dr. Mark Essak joins Ed House

Ed's House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre is pleased to announce that Dr. Mark Essak has accepted the position as the new Medical Director for Hospice Services at Community Care Northumberland's Ed's House.

Dr. Essak succeeds long-time predecessor Dr. Kate Everdell, praised in the press release for “exceptional guidance and compassionate care to residents, families and staff,” is credited for her pivotal role in shaping the high standard of care at Ed's House and for leaving a lasting legacy in the community.

Dr. Essak brings 38 years of medical experience, 35 of them in the Cobourg community across office, hospital, obstetrics and emergency care. He has held such leadership roles as Northumberland Hills Hospital Chief of Staff and Chair of the local Family Health Team. His practice has always included a strong focus on palliative care.

“I'm very pleased to continue my work with the excellent staff, volunteers, doctor and leadership team at Ed's House as I take over as Medical Director form Dr. Everdell and continue the great work she has started,” he commented in the announcement.

Dr. Essak will work with the Ed's House hospice team to advance their mission of providing dignity, comfort and expert medical care to residents, while offering support to their families.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Essak as our new Medical Director,a dn look forward to the expertise and compassionate care he brings to our residents and families,” Community Care Chief Executive Officer Trish Baird stated – while also extending heartfelt thanks to Dr. Everdell “for her years of outstanding service and dedication.”
