Northumberland Hills Hospital to add fourth operating room following hefty donation

Northumberland Hills Hospital will build and equip a fourth operating room thanks to a $2.5 million dollar donation from the William B.G. Humphries Radlett Foundation towards the Exception Community, Exceptional Care campaign.

Adding a fourth operating room was one of the key projects announced when the campaign was launched last spring, said NHH Foundation CEO Rhonda Cunningham.

William (Bill) Humphries, who passed away in 2020, committed to improving the lives of others and anonymously supported many charities over the years.

Upon his passing, Humphries named three Trustees to oversee The Radlett Foundation which he established to continue his charitable endeavours. The three trustees coordinated the gift to the hospital.

NHH president and CEO Susan Walsh said the development of the fourth operating room aligns with the hospital’s strategic plan’s first priority to bring care close to home. It also helps support a growing west Northumberland community.

Dr. Andrew Stratford, Chief of Surgical Services, said the fourth operating room will increase local and regional surgical capacity and allow for a decrease in surgical wait times, adding it will also help the hospital attract and retain medical professionals and create the opportunity to explore bringing new surgical services to the area.

Construction of the fourth operating room at NHH is slated to commence this year.

There is no update on where the campaign stands at this time, but Cunningham said more projects are planned to be completed this year.
