Cramahe changes Colborne water provider
By Cecilia Nasmith
The Township of Cramahe has announced a new partnership with Lakefront Utility Services Inc. to deliver water services for the Village of Colborne – joining several other local communities in partnering with the Cobourg-based utility for this commodity.
Cramahe's contract with current provider Aquatech is concluding by mutual agreement, and they will work with LUSI to make the transition.
“Colborne residents can expect a seamless transition and the provision of high-quality water services during this interim period,” Mayor Mandy Martin said in the announcement.
“Ensuring access to clean, safe water for our community is a core tenet of township operations. Council is confident that LUSI has the experience, expertise and local context to deliver this mandate.”
The press release listed the other Northumberland communities where LUSI operates water systems, including the townships of Hamilton and Alnwick-Haldimand. The corporation's focus is to treat and distribute water to residents and businesses, ensuring its quality and safety by adhering to stringent regulatory compliance and guidelines.
Colborne residents using municipal water services will receive monthly billing from LUSI for the June cycle onwards. The May billing cycle will be the last for payments to Aquatech, after which any payments must be made directly to the township (by cash, debit or cheque). All pre-authorized payments set up by Aquatech for water billing will also be cancelled after July 4 (please direct any enquiries or questions to finance@cramahe.ca).
Cramahe Township and LUSI are hosting a meet-and-greet at the municipal building (1 Toronto St., Colborne) on Thursday, June 29, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. to offer residents a chance to ask questions and learn more about water services.
