Cobourg prepares for Family Day

By Cecilia Nasmith

The Town of Cobourg reminds everyone that Feb. 21 is Family Day, and that some closures can be expected.

The list would include municipal buildings – Victoria Hall at 55 King St. W., the Venture 13 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre at 739 D'Arcy St., the Art Gallery of Northumberland (third floor west at Victoria Hall) and the Cobourg Public Library at 200 Ontario St. As well, conventional WHEELS transit systems will not operate except for pre-scheduled dialysis appointments.

On the other hand, a number of safe opportunities remain for Family Day Fun, such as skating at the Rotary Harbourfront Outdoor Rink (and, while you're there, check out the Cobourg Love Locks). If you'd prefer an indoor spin on the ice, lace up for the Family Day Skate at the Cobourg Community Centre Bowl arena from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It's $2 per person (or $5 per family) plus vaccination QR code and valid ID for everyone aged 12 and older. Please remember that the ice capacity is 35 skaters at a time.

And if you're up for a Cobourg Cougars game, doors open at 6:30 p.m. at the CCC for the home-town team to take on Caledon at 7 p.m.

The Cobourg Public Library does offer an outdoor Family Day Book Walk, and Experience Cobourg has an on-line Heritage Walking Tour you might enjoy. As well, Fellowship Baptist Church (469 Elgin St. E.) welcomes you to its free Family Day Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Five Counties Children's Centre is putting together a Winterfest that runs from Feb. 18 to 21.

If you'd rather duck indoors, you might like a public swim at YMCA Northumberland (339 Elgin St. W.). And there's always the option of supporting Cobourg's various restaurants and shops – Crock A Doodle at 169 Division St., for example, where reservations are recommended and to-go kits are available.
