Plastic Pollution talk at Venture 13

Cobourg's Venture 13 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre invites members of the public to a guest lecture called Plastic Pollution: Global Problem, Local Solutions at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 8.

Plastic debris (including small microplastic problems that are sometimes barely visible to the naked eye) are polluting our lakes, rivers and oceans. Keynote speaker Dr. Chelsea Rochman – Professor of Ecology at University of Toronto and Co-founder and Director of the U of T Trash Team – who has researched the issue for more than a decade. Striving to translate science beyond academia, she has presented her work to the United Nations General Assembly and the US State Department, and has served as an expert witness for both the Canadian and United States governments.

Dr. Rochman will share recent insights into where this plastic is coming from, how it's braking down, what this could mean for the ecosystem. She will also touch on solutions.

She will be joined by Cobourg's Environmental Technician Jennifer Leno, who will speak directly to the town's response to this problem. Attendees will learn about the big picture of the plastic-pollution issue, as well as what's happening in the Town of Cobourg.

Venture 13 is located at 739 D'Arcy St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., with the event running from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the seminar room.
