Cobourg will co-host provincial town-crier championships

By Cecilia Nasmith

Cobourg will be hosting the Ontario provincial town-crier championships June 1, Mayor John Henderson announced at this week's council meeting.

It will be a shared event with Grafton, the mayor added, taking place in Cobourg in the morning and Grafton in the afternoon.

Cobourg will require four interested volunteers for the event's scoring committee, Henderson said. The town will advertise for these positions this week, with a May 17 deadline for anyone interested to apply. They will join volunteers from Alwnick-Haldimand Township (who already have been appointed) to make up the scoring committee.

The time commitment includes four to eight hours on May 31 for an orientation session, plus potentially 12 hours on June 1.

β€œAnd for your gracious assistance, we will give you lunch and make sure you have a wonderful dinner,” Henderson said.
