Another suspicious fire in Roseneath area

Yesterday, members of the Northumberland Detachment of the OPP were called to attend Church Road located north of Roseneath to assist the Alnwick-Haldimand Township Fire Department with a reported structure fire.

Officers came to the scene and found that a church at that location was fully engulfed by flames. The fire was extinguished by firefighters and no injuries were reported. Estimated damage is unknown at this time.

Police and the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire.

This fire is currently being investigated along with two other fires that have occurred in the Roseneath area since March 18, 2019.

In a statement to the media, Alnwick-Haldimand Mayor John Logel said;

“On behalf of Council, I want to share my condolences with those who have lost property as well as, in some cases, important pieces of history and heritage.

I also want to thank our emergency services personnel for their rapid response and professionalism in dealing with these incidents. I have been in regular contact with authorities from our local fire, police and paramedic services, and have directly expressed Council’s full support and appreciation for their ongoing coordinated efforts to keep our community safe.”

Police are urging the public to assist with these ongoing investigations by calling in tips to the Northumberland OPP (905) 372-5421 or by calling the non-emergency line (888) 310-1122.
