My interest in municipal politics began at a young age, at which time I started to question over-development and its effects on citizens. While most people don’t pay a whole lot of attention to local government, it’s important to remember how much of our day to day lives rely on the services municipalities are responsible for, and how our leaders can support the community.

This coming election is quite possibly the most important to take place in recent memory. Our municipality (especially wards 1 and 2) is directly threatened by the ALTO high-speed rail boondoggle. So many people stand to lose everything for a train that will benefit almost nobody in Trent Hills. If elected I will make it my priority to stand up against expropriations, bring awareness to the issue, and fight to get the best outcome for our farmers.

I’m also a strong believer in property rights and will support exploring ways to reduce the legislated burdens on homeowners and make it easier to start home businesses. Trent Hills has vibrant downtown cores with excellent volunteer-based events that should always be supported. My previous role as Chairman of the Colborne Apple Blossom Tyme festival provided me with first-hand experience and insight on how events are run and how municipal leaders and government can support them.

We also need to find ways to reduce tax increases and fees on our citizens, which is why I’m calling for an immediate reduction on the base price of garbage tags. It’s hard to fit everything I want to say into a 300-word write-up, so I will finish off with this; If I am fortunate enough to receive the support of the great folks in Ward 2, I will always listen and work for their priorities.
