Sherry Gibson says if elected mayor of Alnwick/Haldimand Township she will work to restore trust of volunteer boards and committees, better engage citizens and listen to their concerns. This follows more than one dozen volunteer committee members resigning over the past four years, many frustrated with the current council’s approach to their contributions. Gibson adds this will be accomplished by setting clear mandates for committees, ensuring that the volunteer committees know how to report back to council, and that their work is valued.

Excitement is building as the new Beyond the Blue Box in Cobourg is starting to take shape with the exterior walls recently being installed. The popular thrift and consignment store on Covert Street was severely damaged following a fire four years ago, leaving officials with a daunting rebuild project. Executive Director Jane Stevenson-Hawthorne says anticipation is mounting as staff soon get set to ready layout plans.

Nicole Beatty says if she becomes mayor of Cobourg, she will move the municipality away from stop gap measures in addressing homelessness, working toward integrating infrastructure that enhances housing and health care. Yet this approach for Beatty does not mean Cobourg will be the central hub for social services in Northumberland County. She wants to reclaim public parks, by increasing festival and cultural use, believing that an active park is a safe park.  Beatty will seek to update the Official Community Plan to modernize it for future residential builds. She is hoping to have an updated plan approved by the end of 2027, as this will provide stability for growth over the next 25 years.
