Cobourg Debates 2026 announces debate dates

The community led-group Cobourg Debates 2026 has announced that free tickets are going fast for their two debate nights at the Lions Community Centre.

That would be an event for deputy mayor and council candidates on Wednesday, Oct. 14, with a mayors' debate the following night. Doors open both nights at 6 p.m., and the event begins at 7 p.m.

The announcement added that Cogeco's YourTV Northumberland has agreed to a livestream for each forum, with rebroadcast over the weekend.

Cobourg residents are invited to submit questions they would like to see candidates answer during the debates at cobourgdebates2026.ca – where they can also volunteer to be part of presenting these non-partisan events “that belong to the community, not to any one candidate or political party,” the press release added.

“A steering committee of volunteers from a variety of backgrounds has reached out for support from various partners. Along with Cogeco, CFUW-Northumberland is providing volunteer help, media and logistical support. And the Debate Club at Trinity College School in Port Hope is assisting with procedures to ensure the debates are run with accuracy, timeliness and fairness for all candidates.”

The Lions Centre is located at 157 Elgin St. E.
