Ainsworth alleges campaign signs damaged or vandalized

A mayoral candidate for Alnwick/Haldimand Township is raising the alarms that some of his election campaign signs have either been taken or damaged.

In a Facebook post, Mike Ainsworth says there is no place for vandalism, theft or destruction of candidates' properties.

“I respect that everyone has the right to support whichever candidate they choose. That’s what democracy is about. If you don’t support me, that’s your choice. Please leave my signs alone,” the statement said.

Ainsworth continued that he wants all candidates and their supporters to conduct a respectful campaign focused on the issues which matter to the residents of Alnwick/Haldimand Township.

Ainsworth’s political rival Sherry Gibson responded stating that vandalism is not acceptable, but could be unlawful. While there may be policy disagreements, there should not be disrespect of a candidate.

“After this election, we will all still share the same community,” Gibson wrote on Facebook.
