Stronger Together event promotes local breast health

The Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation is inviting members of the community to come together on Oct. 7 for Stronger Together: Stay Abreast – an inspiring evening dedicated to raising awareness, providing support and empowering individuals and families affected by breast cancer.
Taking place from 6 to 9 p.m. at Port Hope's Capitol Theatre, the event features powerful stories from local individuals who have experienced breast cancer, from the uncertainty surrounding diagnosis and treatment to the resilience of survivorship.
Jennifer, who is currently undergoing treatment, will be joined by Sandy – a breast-cancer survivor – to share personal journeys and offer hope, encouragement and connection to others traveling the same road. Augmenting their stories will be information from health-care and wellness professionals about the services, resources and supports available at every stage of the breast-cancer journey.
Hosted by the NHH Foundation and the Survivor Thrivers dragon-boat team, this event is also a fundraiser for both organizations. Proceeds will help modernize the hospital's breast-health program, and help the Survivor Thrivers purchase a new dragon boat for their team of local individuals living with a breast-cancer diagnosis.
Foundation Chief Executive Officer Rhonda Cunningham said the event is more than a fundraiser.
“This event will bring together those touched by breast cancer, health-care and wellness professionals, and supporters in a powerful show of community,” Cunningham said in the announcement.
“Together we can raise awareness and invest in the future of local breast health care.”
Investments planned to help modernize the hospital's breast health program include a new 3D mammography unit, an ultrasound machine, a bone-mineral density scanner, and wire-tree breast-tissue localization technology.
Tickets are $55 each, now available on the Capitol website.
