BECN Youth Entrepreneurship Showcase returns Aug. 12

On Aug. 12, the Staples store in Cobourg will welcome back the annual BECN Youth Entrepreneurship Showcase, allowing the county's young entrepreneurs to show off their innovation and creativity.
These budding business owners are from the Business and Entrepreneurship Centre of Northumberland's two programs – My Future My Career, for young people aged eight to 14, and the Summer Company Program, for those aged 15 to 29.
Both have provided these young people access to mentoring, business coaching and microgrants. In the case of My Future My Career, this can mean up to $500 to help fund such business expenses as marketing, supplies and equipment. The Summer Company Program (with support from the province of Ontario) can provide up to $3,000 to help fund the start-up costs of operating a business.
More than 20 of these will be showcased at Staples, with products and services on display – a variety that includes photography services, mobile auto detailing, T-shirts and branded apparel items, lawn care, horse rodeo rope, asphalt sealing, unique buttons and 3D printed toys, Spanish lessons and home decor items.
Staples is located at 1025 Elgin St. W. in Cobourg, and you can browse, shop and support local talent at the showcase from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
For those unable to attend, don't miss a second chance to see the young entrepreneurs from these programs selling their wares at the Cobourg Farmers Market Youth Day on Aug. 22, in the Rotary Waterfront Park from 9 a.m. to noon.
