Cobourg lends helping hand with 10 for 10

In a show of support for the people of Armstrong and Whitesand First Nation who have been forced to evacuate due to wildfires, Cobourg council has passed a motion to support a Town of Cobourg 10 for 10 Campaign.

The July 13 evacuation forced these communities into Thunder Bay, carrying only what they could take with them as they wait to learn the fate of their homes and community.

10 for 10 works by having participants make 10 calls over 10 days to ask each person to contribute $10 – a suggested minimum, though larger donations are welcome. Individuals, businesses, charities and community organizations are welcome to participate, and the town will forward all donations collected to an agency assisting these families.

Mayor Lucas Cleveland characterized the response to the campaign as outstanding.

“Cobourg business owners, service clubs and residents are stepping up,” Cleveland said.

“This is exactly what 10 for 10 is about – small, manageable acts of generosity that add up to real support for families from Whitesand First Nation and neighbouring communities.”

The campaign continues through Aug. 7, and donations can be made in several ways.

Cheques payable to the Town of Cobourg can be made at the finance department in Victoria Hall. Cash donations should be made in person, but cheques can be brought in or mailed (55 King St. W., Cobourg K9A 2M2).

Donation receipts are available upon request. Include your full name, mailing address, and indicate whether you will pick it up or where to mail it.
