May 6 was McHappy Day, a national fundraising event where proceeds from a portion of each item sold at McDonald’s restaurants goes to Ronald McDonald Houses.

These facilities are a safe place for families of children receiving vital care, near treatment centres. For one Northumberland County family, the Ronald McDonald House in Toronto has been a second home, as approximately four years ago, six-year-old Hendrix was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, affecting his bones and bone marrow.

Hendrix’s mother Jenna Devlin speaks to the support they received from workers during their time of uncertainty.
