The Town of Cobourg's Public Works and Engineering Division informs residents of construction beginning next week – the week of June 1 – on King Street West between the Cobourg Creek bridge and William/Ontario Street.

Depending on weather, this work could take six months to complete, closing the road temporarily to vehicular traffic. Local access to properties will be maintained for vehicles and pedestrians other than short-duration interruptions. The contractor and project engineers will, wherever possible, communicate temporary access restrictions in advance, and signage will provide information on traffic access and detour routes.

Since late March, NPL Canada (approved contractor working on behalf of Enbridge Gas) have been working to relocate a portion of the existing underground natural-gas distribution main along this King Street West corridor.

The town's Asset Management Plan has identified this project as a high priority for capital investment, the work including water-main, sanitary and storm-sewer replacement, and road resurfacing. This work has been separated into two sections of King Street West.

Phase 1, this 460-metre stretch east from the bridge, takes place this spring.

Phase 2, from the Cobourg Creek bridge west to Burnham Street, begins in 2027.
