The May talk in the Northumberland PACE Speakers Series features Dr. Jenny Ingram – documentary producer and Internal and Geriatric Medicine Specialist – for a presentation on Dementia: How To Be An Effective Care Partner.
The virtual conversation will take place on Zoom, starting at 5:30 p.m. May 28.
The event will be moderated by Northumberland Hills Hospital Vice-President of Patient Experience, Public Affairs and Strategic Partnerships, with introductions by Dr. Mukesh Bhargava – Internal Medicine Specialist, of Cardiovascular and Nerovascular Focus practice IM Care, and the doctor who originated PACE Talks in 2018 as a way to answer some of the questions his patient were asking most.
Dr. Ingram has worked in the development of dementia protocols for primary care providers and also serves as the Ontario Co-Investigator for Research on the Organization of Healthcare Services for Alzheimer's Disease.
She is also founder of the Kawartha Centre, a community-based research site and clinic specializing in Alzheimer research trials, and helped establish the Geriatric Assessment and Intervention Network, an interprofessional team of health-care professionals working collaboratively with patients and families and their care providers to strengthen supports and capacity for older adults whose health concerns threaten their ability to live independently at home.
Dr. Ingram recently produced the documentary film No More Silent Battles, which shines a light on dementia care in Canada and advocates for alternative models of care that are grounded in community, expertise and family resilience.
She will provide insights into her research and share coping strategies for those living with dementia and their caregivers.
Gillard cited Dr. Ingram's “considerable expertise and knowledge of dementia” over more than two decades of trials and research work.
“Her insights into early detection and how to best support those experiencing the related physical and mental challenges of this disease are invaluable to improving patient care.”
The hour-long PACE format consists of a 30-minute presentation, followed by a 20-minute question-and-answer period. Questions may be submitted in advance by e-mailing mbhargava@imcare.ca or – time permitting – posed live during the event.
The event is hosted through Zoom (for more information, visit pacetalks.com), and attendees are asked to join five minutes prior to the start.
