Victoria Day in Cobourg means the start of High Season for parking regulations, but the rules have recently changed.

The Town of Cobourg has issued an update on these changes for residents and guests.

The announcement was prefaced with the reminder that High Season is May 15 to Sept. 14 (previously Thanksgiving weekend) and that parking is enforced around the clock seven days a week.

Downtown parking

Downtown parking is now free for the first three hours, year-round, after which the rate is $2.50 an hour for both on-street and lot parking. Payment for this additional time can be made at Pay and Display machines or parking meters, or through the HONK Mobile app.

Waterfront parking

There is no free parking in waterfront lots and streets during High Season, and the parking rate remains at $5 an hour or $40 a day. During Low Season, however, waterfront parking lots and on-street spots offer free parking for the first three hours, after which the rate is $2.50 an hour or $20 a day.

Parking permits

These are available on-line at parking.cobourg.ca and in-person from the Municipal Law Enforcement and Licensing Services (201 Second St.) and Victoria Hall (55 King St. W.) from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m weekdays. Two vehicles can be registered on one parking permit, and both can utilize the permit at the same time.

For Cobourg residents, it's $10 a month year-round, good for parking in both downtown and waterfront lots and on-street parking (including overnight parking in lots and on-street downtown year-round).

For Northumberland residents, it's $40 a month year-round, with the same conditions applying.

The DBIA employee permit is $20 a month year-round, valid for downtown parking lots but not waterfront-designated areas.

The visitor waterfront permit is $35 a month during the Low Season, $80 a month during the High Season, and $320 for the entire High Season – valid only in waterfront parking lots and on-street, but not valid downtown, and does not include overnight parking.

Accessible parking

This is free for Cobourg residents who have registered for an annual Cobourg Resident Accessible Permit, both in accessible and other lawful parking spaces. Non-residents must pay applicable parking rates. And accessible on-street parking spaces have a three-hour time limit.

Overnight parking

This is the period from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Permits are $10 a night or $100 a month.
