The YMCA Northumberland has raised over $21,000 on McHappy Day, through teaming up with Northumberland County based McDonald’s restaurants. $16,125 was raised in Cobourg and Port Hope combined and $5,227 was raised in Campbellford and Brighton combined, bringing the total to over $21,250 available to serve local children and families.

“The energy at the restaurants on Wednesday was electric,” said Eunice Kirkpatrick, President & CEO, YMCA Northumberland. “We are so grateful to the local McDonald’s owner-operators and our community members. To see so many come together in such a tangible way demonstrates the shared belief that every child deserves a chance to shine. These funds are not just numbers; they represent new opportunities for our kids to build confidence and connection in safe, exciting outdoor spaces.”

As the 2026 local partner, YMCA Northumberland will direct its portion of the funds raised towards:

• New outdoor climbing tower at the Cobourg Y

• New outdoor pavilion in Campbellford Y

• Expanded youth programming and day trips at the Brighton Y Camps

McDonald’s restaurants across Canada participated in the May 6 national fundraiser, in support of Ronald McDonald Houses. These facilities provide families and children receiving critical health care a free place to stay, close to treatment centres.
