The Town of Cobourg has implemented mandatory licensing for Short-Term Rental Accommodation companies and operators in Cobourg through the town's Municipal Law Enforcement and Licensing Department.

The bylaw came into effect April 1, 2025, followed by the approval of the updated zoning bylaw on Dec. 17. With both now in effect, the town is now actively accepting and processing STRA license applications.

These applications are processed through the town's Cloudpermit licensing software – go to Cobourg.ca/STRA and follow the link (you will need to create an account to begin the process).

Short-Term Rental Accommodations differ from traditional accommodations in that they usually occur in buildings used for residential purposes, offering a variety of benefits to both travellers and home owners. The intention of a licensing program is to create equal standards for all STRAs, to educate and guide owners and renters, and to provide Municipal Law Enforcement staff with the necessary tools to ensure compliance of all regulatory legislation.

The town's website now includes an STRA page to provide a variety of information and resources to assist applicants, and will include a list of licensed operators and companies. For more information, contact Municipal Law Enforcement and Licensing staff at 905-372-8380 or licensing@cobourg.ca
