Last weekend saw members of Port Hope council, municipal staff, family, friends, community organizations and residents gathered at Kinsmen Park to celebrate the life and legacy of long-time Councillor, Deputy Mayor and dedicated community volunteer by christening the site Jeff Lees Memorial Kinsmen Park in his honour.

The ceremony represented Lees's extraordinary contributions to the municipality and the many community organizations he served.

The event featured remarks from municipal representatives, colleagues, family members and Kinsmen members, followed by the unveiling of the park's new name and sign.

Lees was a councillor for more than 25 years, helping guide important decisions and initiatives that shaped the community. Beyond municipal government, he was widely known for the countless hours he volunteered in service with local organizations.

Mayor Olena Hankivsky hailed Lees as “an advocate for this community and a dedicated volunteer. Renaming this park in his honour endures that future generations will know the lasting contributions he made to Port Hope.”

The announcement extended the municipality's appreciation to all who attended the ceremony, adding, “the newly named Jeff Lees Memorial Kinsmen Park will serve as a lasting tribute to a man whose dedication helped shape Port Hope and whose legacy will continue to inspire residents for years to come.”
