Northumberland County is adding two additional leaf and yard waste collection dates in December, giving residents in areas 3 and 4 another chance to clear their yards before snow flies and the program pauses until April.

In addition to November dates – Nov 2 (for households that have Monday pick-ups), Nov. 9 (for those with Tuesday pick-ups), Nov. 16 (for those with Wednesday pick-ups as well as residents of Port Hope's rural ward) and Nov. 23 (for those with Thursday pick-ups) – two December dates have been added. Set-out dates have been announced as Dec. 7 pick-up for those who normally get pick-up Mondays and Wednesdays (plus those in Port Hope's rural ward) and Dec. 14 for those with Tuesday and Thursday pick-ups.

Residents are reminded to have their leaf and yard waste at curbside at 7 a.m. on that designated Monday for collection some time during that week.

Leaves and grass clippings must be in paper yard-waste bags, all of which must weigh less than 44 lb. Roll the tops shut to keep the waste dry and prevent it from falling or blowing out.

Tie brush into bundles no longer than three feet, and with no material larger than two inches in diameter.
