It's a musical winter at the Capitol Theatre

Port Hope's Capitol Theatre is enjoying a musical winter, with its Heartbreak Hits series.

Artistic Director Rob Kempson has announced the Capitol's first musical offerings of the new year in the 2026 Music Lovers series.

Conceived by Kempson and Jeff Newberry and directed by Margot Grieve, the February 2026 Heartbreak Hits: Billboard In Concert event for February in an anti-Valentine's celebration of the best songs about falling out of love – Since U Been Gone, I Will Survive,You Oughtta Know, You're So Vain. Under the music direction of Alexa Belgrave, with performances by Krystie Chance (Disney's The Lion King), Belinda Corpuz (Steel Magnolias) and Kaylee Harwood (Waitress), the show runs Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m., Feb. 7 at 2 and 7:30 p.m., and Feb. 8 at 2 p.m.

In March, Capitol regulars John Eaton, Sacha Law and Jason Murphy – Shipyard Kitchen Party – bring you Tom Thomson's Wake, a great Canadian mystery told with East Coast-style music.

Set two years after the renowned painter's mysterious death, Thomson's friend, mentor and lover gather to share memories of Algonquin Park's most famous resident. With high-definition imagery of Group of Seven artworks, unforgettable characters and an original folk-music score by Shipyard Kitchen Party (creators of The Newfoundland Songbook), Tom Thomson's Wake hits the stage March 6 at 7:30 p.m., March 7 at 2 and 7:30 p.m., and March 8 at 2 p.m.

Looking ahead, I'm Every Woman: The Whitney Houston Songbook features Capitol favourite Taylor Lovelace paying tribute to one of the most defining artists of the 20th century in this musical celebration of women's voices developed through the Capitol's 2025 Creators' Unit. I'm Every Woman is onstage Oct. 22 to 25.

Meanwhile, tickets are now on sale to the general public for You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown, the first Mainstage show of the year – winner of two Tony Awards and three Drama Desk Awards. You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown runs from May 15 to 31.

And in April, don't miss the fourth-annual Summer Season Rollout and Red Carpet Gala, a series of themed community events inspired by the productions coming to the stage over the Summer Season.
