The board of directors for Transition House, the organization that operates Northumberland County's homeless shelter in Cobourg, announces that Sept. 19 will be Executive Director Ike Nwibe's last day on the job as he leaves to pursue a new opportunity.
The move comes as the shelter – located at 310 Division St. - goes through its own transition, with recent county council votes to remove the ground-floor drop-in warming-cooling hub. Transition House is working through the changes that have resulted from this new model of service delivery.
Board Chair Meaghan Macdonald expressed their gratitude for Nwibe's expertise and leadership.
“Over the last almost two years, Ike has served the clients, staff and volunteers at Transition House, along with the surrounding community, with deep commitment, unwavering integrity and tremendous heart,” Macdonald said in the announcement.
“We know he will carry his incredible work ethic and passion with him to his new role, and we wish him all the best.”
To guide the organization through this critical time, Christian Harvey has engaged as the interim Executive Director for a period of up to six months.
“Christian has committed his professional life to supporting individuals who are unhoused,” the announcement said.
“He brings with him extensive experience operating sheltering services in the City of Peterborough, where he was most recently the Executive Director of One City Peterborough.
“Christian's leadership and expertise will help the organization develop the framework and culture to effectively and successfully implement the new model of service at 310 Division St.,” it stated.
“We are confident that, under Christian's leadership as interim Executive Director, the organization will remain well-supported as we move through this important period of transition. During this time, the board will have an opportunity to consider the strategic direction and path forward for the organization, which will include recruiting a permanent Executive Director.”
