A fourth year of Lemon-AID for Northumberland Hills Hospital has wrapped.
At the celebration Sept. 23 outside the hospital, it was announced that 2025 was their best year ever, with young philanthropists setting up 18 Lemon-AID stands over the summer and raising $7,623 for the NHH Foundation.
These proceeds will purchase beanie hats for patients undergoing chemotherapy treatments, as well as stuffed animals for children receiving care through the Surgical Services program.
Attending the announcement was a young cancer-care patient named Marie, who shared a few words about what the beanies mean for her and the other patients.
“When I take my medicine to make me feel better, it makes my hair fall out,” she said.
“This means on cold days, my head gets very cold and, on hot days, my head can get sunburned.
“These hats are the perfect solution, and are my favourite – so much so that I even purchased more myself after receiving mine from NHH. Thank you to everyone who helped make these hats possible for patients like me.”
“It was heart-warming to see so many different ages come together to host stands, and the amazing community that showed up to support these stands,” NHH Foundation Chief Executive Officer Rhonda Cunningham said.
“From the local fire departments, police departments, to friends and families, and even those just walking by. This total would not have been possible without each and every one who stepped up in support.”
Lemon-AID 2025 was sponsored by Davis's Your Independent Grocer in Port Hope, providing participants with kits that included gift cards to the Independent to kick-start their stands. Then, these young hosts made plans to set up their stands on suitable dates, with proceeds donated to the NHH Foundation.
