Two people are facing charges for allegedly net fishing in a protected area in Port Hope.

On Sunday, police were dispatched to the Ganaraska River following reports of individuals attempting to net fish within the designated fish sanctuary area, located north of the Molson Street bridge.

Authorities claim the pair were actively trying to net fish near the fish ladder. When approached, the men attempted to leave the area and were later located in a vehicle nearby.

It was confirmed that neither possessed a valid fishing license. Police ask the public to respect fishing and conservation regulations.
