Port Hope Police are warning residents of a rise in attempted thefts targeting high-end vehicles and pickup trucks in neighbourhoods.
Police say several reports have come in over recent weeks of suspects scouting driveways late at night, often seen walking near parked vehicles or driving slowly without headlights.
The suspects are believed to be targeting specific makes and models sought after by organized auto theft rings.
Luxury SUVs and pickup trucks are especially at risk.
Residents should watch for tampered door handles, damaged keyholes, or anyone seen using handheld devices near vehicle doors, as they may be attempting to use signal-boosting or reprogramming tools on the vehicle.
Do not approach suspects. Call 911 if a crime is in progress, or report suspicious activity to Port Hope Police at 905-885-8123 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
Police continue to investigate, and are working with regional and provincial partners.
Staying alert and reporting suspicious behaviour helps keep your neighbourhood safer.
